The Life and Times of Don Rosa

Danish documentary director Sebastian Cordes, who has always been a fan of Duckburg stories, set out to make a documentary about comic book artist Don Rosa. Don Rosa is one of the most distinguished, yet most underestimated storytellers in the world of Donald Duck and Uncle Scrooge comics. He has a love for telling stories about the ducks and enjoys creating the comics with much enthusiasm. Don Rosa has always been a comic book fan and collector himself. All his work is dedicated to the number one duck artist, Carl Barks. His great love for duck stories has resulted in comic books that are crammed full of information and elaborate details to an extent, that it far exceeds that of many comic book artist. He has won two Eisner Awards; one of them for his masterpiece “The life and times of Scrooge McDuck” in 1995, and the other one for best writer/artist of humor in 1997. But in spite of his succes, he has had to struggle his entire life to do what he loves most of all, to write and draw Uncle Scrooge comics. He has had to deal with a crushed hand, failing eyesight, low payment, obnoxious Disney copyright executives, a responsibility to the family company, loneliness and a lawsuit by and against his own idol, Carl Barks. The Documentary covers the entire life of Don Rosa, from cradle to retirement. It is intended for the fans of duck stories and Don Rosa artwork. The film is presented in pictures and with soundtracks that flaunts poetic imagery; the classic documentary confronted. It is shot in HD format with at high level of detail.

Huey, Dewey and Louie’s father

Since the drawing presented this week on The Don Rosa Fans’ Weekly Art is new to me, i will make fans that like me didn’t knew that Don had drawn his face aware of this (maybe quite old) sensation.

Note that the name of Huey, Dewey and Louie’s father is just a name that has something to do with the owner of the drawing.

Above is an excerpt of the “official” duck-family tree. Note that Della’s “husband” doesn’t have the same hairstyle as above.

The hairstyle on the first picture may be “inspired” of Mark Worden’s Duck Family Tree, which was drawn from Carl Barks notes. The tree was published in Carl Barks Checklist in 1981

You can read more about Della-research on South-Nordic Academy of Donaldism if you understand Danish.

Don Rosa at Raptus

Comic Society of Bergen is now in full swing planning this year’s edition of Raptus.  It is held in September, and the main guest is already clear: Don Rosa.

The fifteenth edition of the comic book festival Raptus takes place in Bergen 10.-12. September. Festival stadium is new, and this time Ludwig held in the Ny Kvarteret in Håkonsgaten.

-It might be his last international festival. Don Rosa has “retired” due to poor vision. He will hold more varied lectures – not only about himself or ducks, but also based on his famous knowledge and collection of classic comics, tells Wærness from NettSerier.no

Don has also said that he will be coming, to various fans, asking him.

A special drawing

The Don Rosa Fans presents this quite special drawing.

Don drew it at the Komiks convention 2008 in Copenhagen. He was asked how long time it takes to draw a drawing. And he drew this drawing to demonstrate the difficult process, there is behind drawing a single drawing. He also drew a drawing with Donald as well.

A boy called Jonas got the drawing. He says he got it because he was the youngest fan. Some people wanted to buy the drawing, but of course he didn’t wanted to sell it. Jonas is 11 years old, and has been a fan of Don since 2006, where another Don Rosa fan presented Don Rosa’s special drawing and storyteller style for him.

I haven’t measured it, but i think it measures approximately 80×50 cm

Scandinavian 2010 calendar

This is not breaking news, sorry for that.

In order to commemorate Don Rosa’s 20th anniversary in the Scandinavian + Finnish + German weeklies, the Norwegian Don Rosa fan and admin for the big Don Rosa fansite The D.U.C.K.man Sigvald, has made a new Norwegian anniversary calendar.

It consists of 12 Don Rosa covers. 10 from The D.U.C.K.man’s Cover Gallery, the cover for Uncle Scrooge Adventures 5 for March and 1 pin-up colored by Jesper Sichlau for December. Read more about the coloring of the pin-up here. The cover for the calendar is 50 Years Old that Don made for Le Collectionneur de Bandes Dessinées #84 – recolored by Jesper Sichlau.

When asked if there is an English version of the calendar, Sigvald says:
“Not yet, but since I don’t have the time myself I have asked a friend if he could translete/rewrite the texts.”

Facebook is about to close big international Don Rosa group

Facebook is about to close the big international Don Rosa group with over 13.000 fans. Right now you can become a fan, but the admins can’t edit the group.

“The Page “Don Rosa” has had its publishing rights blocked because it violates our Pages Terms of Use. Among other things, Facebook restricts the publishing rights of inauthentic Pages that impersonate other entities, represent generic concepts, spam users, or otherwise violate our Terms of Use. These policies are designed to ensure Facebook remains a safe, secure and trusted environment for all users.says Facebook

You cannot create a fan-page if you are not the one the fan-page concerns.

The admins (Anders Christian Sivebæk and Allan Pedersen) and other Don Rosa-fans are debating this on Danish Donaldist-Society’s forum and on ACS’ post on Facebook.
